TOAST | Shibori Workshop with Annabel Wilson

Join textile artist Annabel Wilson of Townhill Studio for a shibori workshop inspired by our Autumn Winter 2024 seasonal concept, Patterns & Pathways.

Annabel Wilson is a textile artist based in Dorset. She has been exploring stitched shibori for the past fifteen years, and will be guiding you through her methods of stitching and dyeing.

Through clamping, gathering and twisting the fabric before dyeing, shibori creates textural irregularities unique to each individual piece.

During this workshop, she will show you how to stitch a pattern inspired by our seasonal concept and instruct you on dyeing your fabric.

Materials Needed:

• Cotton or linen fabric, ideally 30cm x30cm / 12” x 12” in size (Take care if reusing old fabrics like cotton or linen sheets because worn fabric can rip or tear)
• 3 small glass or plastic beads, ideally 3 to 4mm / 3/16” in size
• String, cut to 20cm / 8” long
• Needles or embroidery needles
• Polyester or nylon sewing thread
• A small amount of double knitting/chunky cotton or wool to create “tags” for securing your stitching
• Scissors
• Coloured washable fabric marker or chalk
